|Attorney Profiles - Child:Míle Knabe|
"Family law," says Míle Knabe, "definitely is an art. Our work is very nuanced. We have to be gentle in our approach with our clients who are experiencing a very difficult period in their lives. At the same time, however, we must be direct and clear enough so they understand exactly what they can expect from the process."
Knabe's first exposure to the art of law was through his father, who is an attorney and who had occasionally worked with the partners of Davis Friedman. Knabe graduated high school in three years, spending the fourth volunteering at the Center for Disability and Elder Law in Chicago. Although Knabe began at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying Economics, he was drawn to legal writing. "I saw something very satisfying in building a good case," he explains. "Writing the argument, supporting your conclusions-it all had a very specific architecture and grace."
After graduating with a degree in Economics in 2011, Knabe decided to pursue a career in law and enrolled in 2011 at DePaul University College of Law. During his first year, Knabe volunteered at Cabrini Green Legal Aid, a pro bono legal clinic. "We were helping people clean up their legal records, helping them get a fair chance and a new start. It didn't take long to see that the kind of assistance we were providing was bringing a lot of relief to our clients."
In 2012, Knabe started as a legal clerk at Davis Friedman. He earned his J.D. cum laude in 2014, earning the CALI Award of Excellence. In November 2014, Knabe was admitted to the bar and was immediately named Davis Friedman's newest Associate.
"I will continue with a focus on divorce and matrimonial law, and there's no better place to pursue that than at Davis Friedman," says Knabe. "In my years as the firm's only clerk I became familiar with every single lawyer here. I came to understand how they connect with their clients and the care they put into crafting their cases. I observed the way they help each other. I saw the skill they bring to their negotiation and, when necessary, their litigation. As an attorney, I'm committed to giving clients that same high standard of representation."
